PARIMA Manila 2017 Conference Highlights

A total of 272 delegates attended the first PARIMA Manila Conference 2017 held at Shangri La at the Fort, Taguig on March 28, 2017 PARIMA stands for Pan-Asia Risk and Insurance Management Association and it is a not for profit professional association dedicated to strengthening and developing the risk profession PARIMA regularly holds events and conferences in various countries and this week, it held its first conference in Philippines
The conference was graced by the CEOs of the two of the largest Philippine conglomerates, Mr Erramon Aboitiz of Aboitiz Equity Ventures and Mr Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala of Ayala Group of Companies Both industry leaders highlighted the importance of managing risks and shared their appreciation for good risk management practices within their respective .companies They shared several initiatives that the Aboitiz and Ayala group are spearheading to build country and .company resilience to natural catastrophes that the Philippines is prone to
Giving a presentation each on their specific Enterprise Risk Management framework, the two CEOs demonstrated how risk management is taken seriously at the board level and a constant key priority that requires senior governance and attention Speaking to an audience of corporate risk and insurance managers, Mr Ayala explained that he valued people who could look at risk and harness it to the organization’s advantage; able to take risks and see the opportunities it represents instead of shying away from it Mr Aboitiz mentioned that “at the end of the day, everybody is a risk manager” and it is the prevalence of a risk culture across each layer of the organization that is a successful measure of good risk management
The CEOs also participated in a panel discussion with Jonathan Rake, Head of South East Asia Swiss Re and Michael Gallagher, Chief Operating Officer Asia Aon, moderated by Steve Tunstall, PARIMA General Secretary

As part of the educational agenda, PARIMA also worked together with Allianz, Aon, International SOS and Swiss Re Corporate Solutions to conduct a whole day of pre-conference masterclasses on 27th March where more than 100 risk managers turned up to learn about D&O Claims, Crisis Preparedness, Cyber Security and Business Interruption This was followed with the PARIMA Manila conference the next day which delved into topics such as Engagement Risks, Sustainability, Political Risk, Risk Maturity and Natural catastrophes
The conference also featured the ‘Truth About Youth’, a worldwide study conducted by McCann Truth Central aiming to understand the millennials The study was presented by Mr Gino Borromeo of McCann Worldgroup Philippines, helping risk managers gain a perspective and set expectations on how to deal with the generation on the rise in the workforce
PARIMA also announced its collaboration with Willis Towers Watson on the launch of the Risk Lab, with its first session scheduled to be held in Manila on 28th April 2017 The Risk Lab is an interactive one-day workshop for the risk management .community delving on topics relating to Strategic, operational and human capital risks
The next PARIMA regional conferences are to be held in Shanghai on 21 June, 2017 and Singapore on November 2017
