RE-LIVE THE SINGAPORE CONFERENCE EXPERIENCE

PARIMA held our first in-person Conferences since 2019 in Singapore last November at Suntec City Convention Centre. We welcomed more than 30 speakers back on the physical stage, leading 12 educational sessions on issues important to risk managers in Singapore.

Raising the Profile of Risk Management in India

Risks in APAC are as diverse as its people, geography, language and culture. PARIMA is heading to Mumbai to put a spotlight on the needs of risk managers in India and to give them the mic to voice their ideas.

Hear from our PARIMA India Board Members, Soni Srivastava from Deutsche Bank and Nitin Nair from RPG Group on why they believe that it is important to have an opportunity for the risk & insurance community in India to gather and meet like-minded individuals.

Join us on 16 June as we gather the risk community in India and exchange best practices to remain resilient in the face of permacrisis.

Adapting to the Era of “Permacrisis”
From climate change, sustained inflation, debt crisis to geopolitical tension, the business risks are becoming increasing interconnected in ways that can amplify the impacts such as supply chain disruptions.

According to most recent Executive Opinion Survey conducted by World Economic Forum and Marsh, geo-economic confrontation and geo-political contestation of strategic resources due to inflation are the top risks cited by Japan business leaders, and there is no certainty on the duration of the impacts resulted from geopolitical risks.

How can companies understand the impacts of geopolitical risks, formulate appropriate risk mitigation actions, and continue to achieve further growth? This session will share and discuss geopolitical risk preparedness from diverse perspectives.

People Risk: Survey Reveals Perception Gap between Japanese and Global Companies
Following the pandemic, there is a growing global focus on “People Risk,” which is the risk associated with employees.

Globally, people risk is recognized by management as having an impact on business continuity and stability, corporate reputation, and revenue growth. In Japan, it is expected to receive more attention as awareness of “human capital management” grows.

Mercer Marsh Benefits has conducted “People Risk Awareness Surveys” for HR and Risk Management professionals globally since 2021, and this year we conducted a similar survey in Japan for the first time.

In this session, we will present the key findings of the survey in Japan and compare them to the results in Europe, the U.S., and Asia.

Facing Climate Change with Risk Financing & Data Analytics
In view of possible climate change, we are required to revisit risk management strategy to cope with changes.

Reinsurance market has been contributing to risk management for corporates as well as individuals indirectly as a global balancer of the risks. Capital market solution has been developed since 90’s as a supplement of those global efforts. On a back of influx of capital into alternative investment markets, ILS has been in the spotlight.

This session will present how risk managers can utilise ILS in face of changes and the future possibilities ILS/capital market contribution to mitigate protection gap that has been on an increase in APAC region through introducing examples that global corporate taking advantage of those capital market instruments (ie cat bond).

Co-existing with Natural Disasters: Understanding the BCP Spectrum
In addition to rising volatility in the business landscape, corporations in Japan sit on top of a natural disaster hotspot. Co-existing with calamities presses businesses to adopt an all-hazards BCP, and find the proper balance between risk control and risk financing. In this session, from the perspective of a risk consulting company affiliated with an insurance company, the latest trends in these risks will be introduced, and pre and post risk control measures – especially contingency control measures, will be explained in detail, involving information gathering, information sharing and decision-making crisis management responses.

Walking the Tightrope on Transition Planning Amidst ESG Volatility
The world is faced with a difficult decision around the world economy recovery post the Corona virus shutdown. This difficulty relates to managing emissions to meet COP 26 targets of saving the planet. It’s a fine balance between keeping the lights on, feeding the ever-growing world population, and allowing a full transition to renewables. The Russia / Ukraine war, along with increases in the cost of energy, challenged most (if not all) of COP26 targets and widened the gap between reducing of our addiction to oil / coal and transitioning to renewables. However, a balance could be achieved within this transition for a number of years until we can fully rely on renewables – Natural Gas!

Navigating the Corporate Asset Class Shift
The global economy is increasingly driven by innovation and intangible assets. Over the past 25 years, intangibles have grown exponentially by around 11% per annum to $74 trillion in 2021 and it’s expected the value will reach $1 quadrillion by 2050.

With this, intangible assets are progressively becoming the dominant share of enterprise’ value today and as such, it’s essential companies identify and understand the exposures this brings, explore ways to protect themselves against those exposures and furthermore, realize the full potential value of their intellectual property to utilize it for growth.

Flexible as a Bamboo in the Middle of an Economic & Geopolitical Storm

Businesses globally face immense pressure to maintain agility as they stride a step ahead of a turbulent economic and geopolitical landscape. Emphasis on issues such as ESG, cyber risk, rapid inflation, digital disruption, etc. have taken the stage in board rooms. In addition, an exceptionally busy political calendar in 2024, the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war and the war between Israel and Hamas will keep geopolitical risks elevated for the foreseeable future. How can corporations fortify their strategies to withstand and grow despite the successive blows of geopolitical instability and a volatile economic forecast?
