We live in a ‘risk generation’. Faced with multiple threats in what has been dubbed as a polycrisis, public and private organisations are increasingly emphasising the importance of taking action ahead of risks. While we explore both the origins of new risks and the role of today’s professionals, we are also ushering the entrance of the Gen Z into the workforce, bringing with them new ideas and perspectives. With this generation of existing and emerging risks, conditions are due for the rise of a risk aware, risk mature and risk-ready generation of risk managers.
In 2025, the theme of ‘The Risk Generation’ will take us through the home grounds of those who live, work, and innovate in an age marked by unprecedented threats and opportunities.

Business on Hold: Business Interruption and Delay in Start-Up Insurance Explained
The loss resulting from the occurrence of an insured incident is not confined to the financial cost of remedying property damage or physical loss – an insured would typically also suffer consequential losses due to a fall in revenue and/or profits. It is, therefore, important for business to not only procure Business Interruption (“BI”) insurance (covering interruptions to business operations) or Delay in Start-Up (“DSU”) insurance (covering construction delays) to protect against such losses, which can often be financially devastating, but also for risk and insurance managers, to be aware of, and understand the cover available and some of the limitations so that they may better understand and manage risks to their businesses.
Join this two-hour session that demystifies and explain the basics of both types of insurance for risk managers and other stakeholders responsible for managing operational risk.

Trade, Tech, and Climate Risks in a Fragmenting World
A global pivot to multi-polarity is forcing a recalibration of business models. Time and energy allocated to responding to trade and other geoeconomic uncertainties risk reducing attention to profound tech and climate disruptions. While the US will remain an essential partner in business, finance, and technology, the rest of the world also needs to focus on deals and rules outside the US. TOTUS stands for Trade Outside the US, but the first T can also stand for Tech, Travel, or Talent. The TOTUS world is centred around tech stacks and funding pillars built in Asia and Europe, but available, increasingly on an open source basis, to the rest to the world.

Business Continuity Management System: Framework and Best Practices
Business Continuity (BC) has evolved from a reactive, checklist-driven function into a strategic, organization-wide capability that underpins resilience, operational stability, and long-term performance. In today’s environment of escalating risks and disruptions, BC is no longer just about recovering from events—it’s about ensuring continuity through structured, proactive, and integrated planning.
This session explores how organisations can use a BC maturity framework to assess current capabilities, simulate risk scenarios, and guide the development of more robust continuity plans. The discussion will emphasize how BC can be aligned with enterprise architecture and business objectives to become a core part of how organisations operate, rather than an afterthought.
While the primary focus is on strengthening BC programs, the session also highlights the importance of crisis response management as a complementary discipline that enables fast, coordinated action when disruptions occur. By embedding both practices into day-to-day operations, organisations can better prepare for, respond to, and recover from unexpected events with minimal impact.
