Conference Theme: Redefining Risks
The business landscape is constantly changing. Good risk managers understand that a wider lens is required to be able to look ahead. New and intangible risks requires different risk management approaches. With transformative business models at play, risk managers need to continually adapt and equip themselves to stay relevant and ahead of the game.
All this calls for a change in the way one sees and defines risks as well as a re-positioning of a risk manager’s role in the organization. In 2019, we would like to challenge risk managers to embrace new perspectives when looking at risk, managing risks and developing themselves. We hope, together with our partners, we can inject freshness of thinking that enables members to build their risk capability, foster stronger relationships and drive measurable impact.
Masterclass - 4th November
9:00 - 10:00
Looking Through the Blind Spots of Intermediary Relationships
Pullman 3
A Risk Manager only forum where Risk Managers share on how they manage their 3rd party relationships with service providers. As risk managers, managing our relationships with service providers such as consultants, insurers, brokers, loss valuators etc. are a vital part of our business model framework. When a crisis comes, we rely heavily on them to minimise the pains that come with the issue. In this closed door, risk managers only masterclass, we will discuss the challenges of managing 3rd party relationships, with senior risk managers sharing their experiences on what works for them and their lessons learnt. Through an interactive host-to-audience discussion, this workshop is designed to help risk managers have a better understanding on how to better manager 3rd party relationships and potential conflicts of interest.

The Claims Conversation
Pullman 3
Businesses and individuals purchase insurance policies for the purpose of benefitting from their protection in the event of a loss. When the worst happens, you expect your policy to respond in a timely and fair manner, indemnifying you or offering protection when you need it.
However, selection of the wrong insurer, inappropriate policy limits or deductibles, and the breach of important conditions and warranties in insurance policies, can all result in unsatisfactory claims outcomes that could directly impact the financial health of your organisation. As the regulatory environment continues to evolve in Asia and as society becomes progressively more litigious, achieving positive claims outcomes becomes increasingly important.
The Masterclass will help you understand the lifecycle of a claim, the claims handling process and how optimal outcomes can be ensured when the right measures are taken.

Operating in a Complex and Hostile Environment
Pullman 5 & 6
Today’s world is facing a growing number of complex and deeply interconnected challenges – from heightened geopolitical and geo-economic tensions, polarized societies, accelerating technological advancement to rapid regulatory changes. The probability of a high-impact event causing reputational damage and disruption to the business cannot be undermined. Having a collaborative approach to risk management can be the key to greater organizational resiliency and growth.
Come join AXA XL in an interactive and engaging session that will help you face these complex challenges head-on and provide the antidote to a hostile business environment.

Risk Management Competency Development
Pullman 3
What are the skills necessary for risk managers to succeed in their organisation? How can risk managers be better influencers, problem solvers and decision-makers? Are you aware of your own blind spots and areas for development?
Come for a 2-hour workshop to learn more about the Risk Competency Framework, understand how to apply it to yourself and your teams and take the complimentary assessment. Apply these competencies and deepen your personal skillset, develop your influencing and communication skills through a hands-on activity where we work in teams to solve a challenge.
Hear what other risk managers have to say about this activity we have done before in other countries: “This measures the risk appetite of risk managers. Some are risk averse and scared to have losses, some are willing to spend and invest to get the gain. I love this game.”
“Very interesting... this is a balance between risk management and business decision”
“My takeaway from this is to be more strategic and see the big picture.”

An Employee Benefits Portfolio that Creates Value for Your Organization
Pullman 5 & 6
Employers in Asia Pacific must adapt to an environment under constant disruption and change. The modernization of the benefit portfolio relies on aligning benefits with the evolving values and preferences of the new workforce. When executed well, it will ensure that for the organization, the benefits they provide aligns to the organization’s culture and values, and promotes employee ownership and accountability. And as for employees, they will find benefits personalized to their specific circumstances and meeting their need at different life stages. Clearly, when employers are able to design and modernizing their benefits to create a portfolio of benefits that is relevant across a variety of employee groups, ages and geographies, flexible, this can be a significant attraction and retention factor for employees.
Historically, employers have been reluctant to foray into offering flexibility because of accompanying cost and administrative complexities. Join us for a highly interactive and informative session, to discuss how advances in technology can now overcome these “obstacles” in a cost-effective way and to pair a benefits program with available technology platforms and strategic financing options that organizations can truly benefit from in managing across financial, human capital and technology risks.

A Risk Management Future Powered by Analytics
Pullman 3
As businesses grow bigger and more borderless, organisations are making increasing investments to harness their enormously growing amount of data. Today we see big data gradually being adopted as a key tool employed to drive growth, chart strategy and manage risks across industries.
For anyone working in the area of risk management, data analytics isn’t new. Risk professionals have been using analytics tools for years, and we continue to see a resurgence of interest in the application of analytics and newer technology to tackle emerging risk management challenges today.
The key challenge when it comes to analytics and risk management is the separation of hype from reality. In this session, we attempt to demystify data analytics in risk management and answer some of the frequently asked question on applying analytics to risk management:
- How has Industry 4.0 enabled Data Analytics and how it is shaping the risk management landscape today?
- How is Data Analytics evolving in risk management today and what can we expect to see a little further down the road
- How does the rise of Data Analytics affect a riskmanager’s job in carrying out their daily roles

- What benefits could be leveraged from the insights?
- How could connected devices change risk management and move uninsurable risks towards transferrable risks?

Help! My systems have been hacked! What do I do now?

Join this session to gain some insights on the common pitfalls to avoid, and also some recommended ways to respond to cyber crisis. Or… you could continue to believe this can happen to everyone else but you.

Presently, the awareness of the importance of Diversity and Inclusion is more vital than ever in the inculcation of values in our Culture and Education system. The cultivation of a holistic personality who is sensitive to our eco-system should be the moral responsibility of everyone, especially those in the position to effect a collective change in this continuous process of evolution towards a civilised and humane race. This is the mode of universal ‘spirituality’ and goal of the present age, which has taken over religion in advocating the moral and ethical responsibility of partaking Life in this living planet. It is inevitable when religions have tended to be divisive. It is a risky business when politicians and those in power do not have the sensitivity to realise the complex equation of happiness and success but instead consigned their decisions on the flawed index of the quantity and profit as the sole measure of success. This is where the sensitivity and potent message of artists who deals with the inner landscape of the human psyche, tempers us to reflect on the diverse human conditions as metaphors of Life in all its complexity.
